So you’ve heard the news at the airport, the Staycation is King but will the changing trends be enough to convince you to change your habits? While British holidays may bring back memories of your own childhood the sun is shining in Spain, but British Holidays are bang on trend and there are plenty of good reasons why.
If you need convincing, and you’re not sure whether you want to invest in a British Holiday instead of your usual foreign break for your next holiday then here’s our list of what we think the eight best things about holidaying in the UK are!
Fish and Chips by the sea
You can get Fish and Chips anywhere but they never quite taste as good as they do in the sea air. Traditional Fish and Chips by the sea is a staple of British holidays and while holiday trends may be changing, this is one favourite pastime that is sticking around!
Long Walks on the Beach
You have to walk off that fish and chips after all! We have some of the best beaches in the world here in our island nation, and British holidays mean long walks on the beach with your feet in the sand, dipping a toe into the sea.
The National Trust
As you might expect walking features heavily in our list and what better place to do some than on National Trust Land? Great swathes of our countryside are managed by the Trust, keeping it unspoiled for you to enjoy on your British Holiday.
Historic Landmarks
Far too many to mention too! Stonehenge, York Minster, Edinburgh Castle, Swowdon, the UK is packed to the rafters with historic landmarks for you to enjoy during your British holiday and as many of them are protected you get to enjoy them in al their unchanged original glory.
The smell of the countryside/seaside
If you’re a city dweller then there’s not much more distinctive than the smell of the British countryside and seaside. Whether it’s the sea air or the fragrant smell of cut grass, the British holiday smells lovely! It’s also the only upside of rainy holiday days, petrichor, the smell of the ground after a long period of dry weather, can’t beat it!
Long car journeys
Whether it’s I Spy, are we nearly there yet or a cuppa at the Little Chef, long car journeys are part of the holiday and while smartphones and tablets may be eroding the travelling fun a little, they are at least handy for keeping the kids quiet!
Local produce
It could be stopping off at the local farm shop, or just trying some local ales or fresh produce. Whether you spend all year waiting for fresh eggs, or cream teas, trying local produce is an integral part of the British Holiday!
Beach Days
Beach days mean something different to everyone, some of us like to go rockpooling, for others it’s about relaxing and catching some rays, for the youngsters it’s daring each other to swim in the freezing cold sea, while for the oldies a walk along the pier is a lovely afternoon, Whatever you like to do, beach days haven’t changed much for generations and are still an integral part of the British Holiday today.
