York Castle Museum

Conisbrough Castle

Although mostly ruins, the 900-year old Conisbrough Castle in South Yorkshire is an exceptional day out. The fine castle underwent renovation in 2013-2014 and was closed to the public, but it’s a better day out than ever whether you want to find it on a country walk, or drive right up with a picnic.

There are exhibitions in the castle, and audio tours so you can find out about the history of the castle, first fortified by King William in the 12th Century. It’s stunning location affords beautiful views and an on site shop sells snacks and sweets. The castle grounds offer a picnic area for families, and a gift shop is available to purchase mementos to remember the day.
