It may be Autumn now, but we are seeing some unseasonably warm weather, giving us an extended holiday season. However, if you’re camping or caravanning you are likely to see some cooler evenings and cold nights, but there are plenty of ways you can stay warm in the evenings and make sure your holiday isn’t tainted by not being able to get warm!
With that in mind, we have some great tips for keeping warm whatever your planned autumn holiday is, and making sure you make the very best of your out of season break!
Extra blankets
If you’re staying in a static caravan, the bedding provided may leave you feeling a little chilly. After all it’s designed for high season and taking some extra blankets yourself can ensure you feel snugly warm on those chilly Autumn nights.
Hot water bottles
Whether you’re camping in a tent, or staying in something a little more structured, the evenings can get hold and a hot water bottle can ensure that you warm up sufficiently. Campers especially will feel the benefit of this from their cosy sleeping bag.
Warmth in numbers
Zipping your sleeping bags together and cuddling up with your significant other is romantic and it’s also a great way of sharing body heat and keeping you warm enough. What more reasons do you need to get wrapped up together in the sleeping bag?
Ensure you have quality camping gear
This sounds obvious but with camping seeing such a boom at the moment, the market s flooded with cheap camping supplies. By ensuring you have quality supplies, you can make sure you have everything you need to stay warm on the chilly evenings.
Campfires
If you’re on a campsite you will need to make sure this is ok, as many sites do not want the ground scorched. However, a fire bin or suitable receptacle can get around the problem and ensure you can warm up while sitting around in the evenings.
Don’t drink too much
When camping it can be tempting to have an alcohol drink or two in the evening. It has the effect of making you feel much warmer, and more impervious to the cold. However, alcohol dehydrates, and dehydration is cold, even if you feel warm now, you’re likely to pay for it later.
It really is all about going prepared and ensuring you have everything you need to stay warm both day and night. Keep active, ensuring you have suitable supplies for the weather and don’t forget that while the days are unseasonably warm, the nights can still get very chilly!
