Easter’s early this year, so it’s time to get cracking and track down some great days out to enjoy with the whole family in the first holiday of the year that holds the promise of decent weather.
British breaks are great value, and you’re never far from some beautiful coast or countryside, an historic wonder or visitor attraction in the UK.
These 10 destinations around the country should give you some ideas for this Easter.
1 – Babbacombe Model Village Easter Egg Trail
This popular tiny town near Torquay is somewhere the little ones can feel like giants for the day. It’s a popular excursion in its own right, and there are chocolate hunts being run from 19th March to April 10th.
Devon’s full of quality holiday parks. Try Hoburne Devon Bay. It’s handy for Torquay and has lots of family-friendly facilities of its own.
2 – Woodlands Family Theme Park Eggstreme Easter
This family fun park is pulling out all the stops for Easter with a big Easter Bunny attraction – yes, he’s got a grotto to match Santa’s. The park is full of rides and there are animals to meet too. The Easter Bunny experience is just one of a number of extra events for the Easter hols.
Hoburne Bay is also handy for Totnes, near Woodlands.
3 – Eden Project Easter Eggstravaganza
The Eden Project has transformed an old quarry into one of the most interesting and rewarding tourist attractions in the UK. The rainforest and Mediterranean plant zones have lots of extras this Easter, including traditional games and, of course, chocolate treasure hunts.
The Eden Project is near St Austell, as is Hoseasons’ Trelawne Manor park.
4 – Margam Country Park
There are craft and baking sessions for youngsters and a “Monk Hunt” added to the usual attractions at Margam Country Park this Easter. The castle and grounds are also host to Go Ape, a high ropes adventure that’s a popular family day out.
Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park is on the south coast of Wales, not too far from Margam and has its own mini water park on site.
5 – Zip World Blaenau Ffestiniog
Fancy some high-speed thrills? The Zip World attractions in North Wales have been attracting plenty of attractions with their record breaking rides. There are also gentler thrills for younger kids, including underground trampolining.
Brynteg, a Hoseasons park, has a wonderful setting at the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, where you’ll find the Zip World sites.
6 – Duck Hunt At Martin Mere Wetland Centre
Kids love wildlife, and the birdlife at Martin Mere Wetland Centre includes some extra quackers this Easter, with prizes for finding them. Otters, pond dipping, and canoe safaris are among the other family-friendly activities at this North-West favourite.
The name is slightly different. As is the location, but Marton Mere is just across the Ribble Estuary from Martin Mere, handy for both Blackpool and Southport.
7 – Easter At Bempton Cliffs
Seabirds are the big attraction at Bempton Cliffs, and Easter should mean an influx of breeding birds on the cliffs. There are Easter arts and crafts sessions and extra wild activities until April 10th.
Barmston Farm is south of the fine old resort of Scarborough and is a great base for exploring the wonderful coast to the south.
8 – Dino Adventure
Until April 12th, an extra inhabitant is wandering SEA LIFE Adventure Park in Weymouth. This being Easter, the dinosaur is question has left some eggs behind and an explorer trail will introduce kids to the prehistoric side of SEA LIFE, with Easter egg hunts for Easter weekend.
Littlesea is a Haven Park, perfectly placed to enjoy Weymouth and the surrounding coast.
9 – Easter Egg Hunt Romney, Hythe And Dymchurch Railway
The kids’ll be chuffed if you take them to this south coast steam railway, where there’s a quiz for chocolate prizes on Easter Sunday. Trains will be running of course and there’s a model railway exhibition to be explored too.
Marlie Farm has fantastic beaches on its doorstep and is handy for the Kent resorts.
10 – Easter Holiday Park At The Ark
This all-weather holiday activity camp offers day or half-day entertainment for kids between 5- and 12-years-old. There’s loads to do – ice skating, sports, crafts, cookery, soft play – and fully supervised staff mean you can safely leave the kids for the day. It runs from March 28th to April 8th and must be booked in advance.
Haven’s Rockley Park camp is well placed to enjoy the beautiful Dorset coastland, and the nearby Ark.
