Hoseasons have just awarded several of their advertised holiday parks as Best in Britain 2016 Winners. The winners are voted by Hoseasons visitors, so it’s a fairly good indicator of quality. The awards have 3 categories, plus there is a secondary Diamond award for exceptional quality and outstanding customer service.
First up, and the most important award to us is the 2016 Lodges & Parks winner, Gwel an Mor. The lodges are located in Portreath, North Cornwall and have a 9.2 Reevoo score out of 10.Their lowest score was 8.4 for ‘value for money’, as this is not a budget location.
Prices start from £449 per week for a Scandinavian log lodge. The lodges have two stories and sleep 5 people. The lowest standard of accommodation at the site appears to be quite high, and an upgrade with get you a two person outdoor hot-tub.
Gwel an Mor is equidistant between St Ives and Newquay, overlooking Portreath beach. As well as being a long sandy beach it is also a haven for water based activities including surfing and kayaking. This is however plenty to do on the park itself.
There is an indoor heated pool, plus a well equipped gym, and after a workout there’s the relaxation of a sauna and spa bath, and Wellbeing Spa. An eco-friendly retreat, the lodges hold the holds the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation and offer plenty of opportunities for the family to commune with nature. More info on Gwel an Mor.
Secondly, is the winner of the small park category, Beach Cove Coastal Retreat in Ilfracombe, North Devon. The park scores 9.4 on Reevoo from 504 reviews in the past 12 months which is quite impressive.
The accommodation at Beach Cove is a bit cheaper, starting at £299 per week for a boutique style beach hut. There is little in the way of facilities on site as this is not so much a family break, more a romantic retreat overlooking the sea. More info on Beach Cove Coastal Retreat.
Both the above locations are well reviewed, but not exclusively for the well-heeled as the prices are not at the higher end. You do get what you pay for, but for award winning resorts, the prices are not bad at all!
