The campaign for Scottish independence is well underway now and the vote will take place very soon. Along with the political posturing has been the thoughts and ideas of how an independent Scotland might work and one of the things that have been thrown up this week is the proposition of independent border control, which could mean that even those who live and holiday in the UK may have to cross a manned border as part of their break.
Scotland is a hugely popular holiday destinations and we feature many holiday parks from the country. Likewise many Scots like to make their way into England and Wales to holiday, but border controls could make a UK holiday as stressful as heading abroad.
Although this is all conjecture, no one really knows how an independent Scotland will work, and right now it’s discussions about border control, whether they will keep the pound, whether the DVLA will remain and of course the pressing issue of deep fried Mars bars. Of course I doubt anyone is listening to what I think but my personal opinion is that while the rest of the world is carving itself up with wars, we’re better as a union.
What exactly an independent Scotland might mean for holidaymakers is yet to be seen and of course it does all depend on a Yes vote, but it could mean the need to change money to a Scottish currency in the same way you need to when you go abroad, it could mean passport control for those entering and leaving the country, and in time should the Scottish economy not be able to support its NHS that you may even need travel insurance to cover injury while you’re away.
