So you’ve been visiting holiday parks and using static caravans for a while, but it might be that you’re now thinking about taking the plunge, making the staycation even cheaper and trying out proper camping, under canvas (or nylon and fibreglass poles these days). For most of this is a decision we usually make in the spring as we’re looking forward to the warmer months but actually right now is when you can get the best deals on tents and all the equipment you need.
At the start of the year everyone is thinking about camping and prices can be quite high, but often as the autumn months set in many camping suppliers reduce prices as they bring in their winter stock, and at places that sell more general wears, they want to clear the summer stock before they take in their Christmas displays!
It’s not just new either, this is the time of year when people have had their final summer camping, and a very wet August could have been the last straw for many. If you’re looking for pre-loved stuff, which can be a great way to build up your camping equipment then now is a great time to check out sites like eBay and Gumtree where there are some real bargains to be had.
These aren’t the only advantages either, buying stuff through the winter isn’t only economical, but it means you have plenty of time to pick a sunny day and learn to put the tent up in the garden, try out the camping stove and ensure it all fits in the car.
If you haven’t been camping for a long time, it’s a lot easier than it used to be, canvas pole tents have given way to carbon fibre, the very best nylons and pop up equipment, lightweight aluminiums and innovative designs mean that camping has become an easy, affordable holiday that anyone can manage.
