A survey by the Holiday Supermarket has shown that while we’re not quite into a New Year yet, many of us are already thinking about our 2015 holidays, and for the average holidaymaker there’ll be three holidays next year! Your typical family will be jetting off to Spain or somewhere similar for their main break but almost a third of people surveyed will be staying closer to home!
In 2014 the average holidaymaker took two holidays, and so that could mean that 2015 is a particularly good holiday year after several lean years caused by the poor economy. It was the recession that forced stay at home holidays but they’ve become quite a trend and with investment in the industry too it’s little wonder that a third of people intend on having a staycation this coming year.
Your average holiday will be a 10 day break in Spain for all the family, but for 32% of holidaymakers they won’t be leaving the UK at all, intending to take their break right here on British shores, which is great news for the British holiday industry. Beach breaks remain the most popular choice for those surveyed with almost 30% of people planning a beach break, either here or abroad, this year.
With many people, including those planning a main holiday abroad, also choosing British short breaks the UK is set to be the most popular holiday destination for Britons this coming year. Spain is also popular, as is the USA, France and Italy.
It looks as though it will be another booming year for the British holiday industry, continuing the upward trend of the last few years, and we don’t even know what the weather forecast says yet!
