It’s Official: Holidays Make Us Happy

According to a recent survey by holiday company, Experia, it’s official, its holidays that make us happy and make the working week and the day to day drudgery a little more bearable. Almost 70% of people surveyed said that it was holidays that kept them focused at work and one in three even said they would take a pay cut to get more holiday time.

January is a pretty blue month so it’s little wonder people are thinking of sunshine breaks right now, and it’s understandable that anyone sitting in an office right now watching the rain running down the window might cite a holiday as the thing that would make them happiest.

Almost half of Brits surveyed said they were happiest while on holiday, and nine out of ten of us say that we come back from holiday happier than we went!

Many of us would be prepared to make sacrifices to have more holiday time including giving up junk food, alcohol, and even social media if it meant we could have more holiday time!

This survey from Expedia shows why most of us intend on taking between three and four breaks this year, and for many of us that will include one foreign sunshine holiday and several short breaks in the UK. Even a weekend away can lift your mood and while the weather might not be really offering what’s needed for a relaxing holiday, there are plenty of holiday deals now tempting you to commit during this glum weather!

One thing the survey didn’t cover is holiday anticipation, for me, the excitement running up to a holiday is often the best bit and I’m sure many others feel the same way.
