What’s the best holiday destination in the UK for families? According to Mumsnet.com it’s Northumberland, and is a bit of a surprise as it raced ahead of old favourites down south. If you haven’t heard of Mumsnet.com then you should be aware that it is a website with clout!
The website gets millions of hits, and is the place for mums to go, and as we all know, it’s mum who controls the purse strings (this has been researched!). So a vote from Mumsnet is a serious accolade on a par with any other tourist award, and to mums who use the site it is a great recommendation as mums know what the family wants more than industry heads!
So, why Northumberland? Basically, there is something for everyone. The coastline is stunning, with many clean beaches. Inland much of the countryside is unspoilt, and is peppered with things to do and places to see. Bamburgh Castle on the coast is an imposing fortification that is a tourist favourite, and to the north there’s another ‘not to be missed’ – Hadrian’s Wall.
Seahouses is a lovely traditional seaside village that has been making holidaymakers welcome for decades, and if you fancy a bit of city life there is always Newcastle with it’s nightlife, and Durham with its cathedral.
So with all the attractions and stark beauty of the area, you might be wondering what the holiday options are for a family within such a sparsely populated region. It has to be said that when it comes to holiday parks it has a lot fewer than it’s southern cousins which may in part be due to the weather as it can get a bit cold up there.
But there are six big parks that we know of, two of which are run by haven, the others being independent, but can all be booked through Hoseasons. So, if you are going to take advice from Mumsnet and book a family head on over to our Northumberland Holiday Parks page to check out a suitable caravan holiday park for your break. Original article
