If you’ve read any of the UK newspapers this week then you may be thinking we’re about to have a heat wave lasting three months. What a lovely thought, we could certainly use some warmer weather and a hot summer would be heavenly. However, the Met Office has released a statement to say that ‘heat wave’ isn’t an accurate reflection of the long range forecast.
The media has interpreted the Met Office three monthly forecast of warmer than average temperatures as a heat wave, causing the Met Office to edit the three month forecast adding that warmer than average temperatures does not constitute a heat wave!
What the three month forecast actually said is that there is a ‘good chance’ (about 25% they say) that weather during the next three months will fall into the above average range but whether this can be read as a three month heat wave the Met Office dispute greatly. They say that predicting the three month weather is like working out the odds on a horserace and that the media reports are untrue!
If you did want some good news regarding your holiday weather, the Met Office did confirm that the next 7 days will be unseasonably warm, so we do at least have a small April warm spell to enjoy now! The month has certainly been lovely so far in regards to the weather and there’s nothing wrong with hoping that will continue into the summer months.
Here’s hoping we get a lovely summer here in the UK, and maybe the idea of warmer weather, even if it isn’t guaranteed will be just what people need to book that caravan getaway for the family!
