If you’re planning a caravan holiday this summer it could be that you’re looking to reduce the costs of eating out by preparing some meals yourself in the caravan. Today holiday lets come well equipped and you can often rely on decent kitchen facilities, but no one wants to be home from home taking the kitchen with you, so what are the best foods to pack for a caravan break to make your life easy and keep everyone happy and well fed?
Well firstly make sure you plan some meals out, after all you’re on holiday and no one wants to be stuck cooking for the whole week! However for those meals you are eating in there are some essentials to take and some tips to make your caravan holiday as on budget as possible.
If you’re driving to the caravan park then planning a supermarket trip just before you arrive at the park is a great way to do things. It’s one less thing to organise at home, and the kids can join in helping with the shopping. Another tip we use often is to cook a whole chicken before we leave, we then wrap it in foil and place it in a thermal bag, by the time we arrive at our holiday destination we have a hot chicken and fresh bread to tuck into to, an instant meal to keep everyone going before the discovering begins.
Aside from that, bread, milk, eggs, bacon are the perfect essentials to carry with you, plus tea bags and coffee of course! Although there may be a shop on site, these can be much more expensive than the supermarket and the ability to cook a breakfast every morning for small expense can get everyone started for the day!
If you are cooking in the evening then we recommend looking up some one pot meals before you go, you can prep everything before you go out for the day and come back to a delicious meal in the evening.
Picnics are also a great way to have fun and save money, packing up a load of cold food, sandwiches and boiled eggs is perfect for beach days but be careful your sandwiches don’t become more sand-sandwiches!
