It used to be that we’d save up all year for a two week holiday in a sunny place far away, but in more recent times it seems people are seeing the value of shorter breaks more often, and the stresses caused by long breaks are a major part of that! While jetting off to the sun is great, with a small family a two week break can often leave you feeling exhausted, and by the time you’ve done the airport dramas on the way home, you need another break to recover!
Now a survey by Travelodge Holiday Index has shown what many of us already thought to be true and that’s that many people are eschewing these long haul holidays for shorter breaks close to home.
It’s not a gradual trend either, according to this survey, the number of families taking the traditional two-week break has decreased a whopping 46% over the last five years with British holiday makers saying they are instead taking a single week with short breaks throughout the year too.
The staycation trend is set to continue if this survey is anything to go by, it predicts that 70% of Britons will take at least one staycation break this year, and fewer than one in five people will be taking a two-week holiday!
The report also highlighted the trends town by town and it says that Wolverhampton is the top staycation city with almost 90% of people there planning a UK break, it makes sense that somewhere in the middle of the country would see more benefit from a seaside break!
It’s not just seaside breaks though, city breaks are becoming increasing popular too, as are walking holidays and activity breaks as the British people fall in love with Britain once again!
