World Cup Fuelling Trend For Staycations

Blog No Comments

Over the last few years the good old British Holiday has had a bit of a revival and vacations on domestic soil, or staycations as they’ve become known have never been so popular. In many ways its people feeling the pinch that are fuelling the staycation trend, but people are also choosing to stay home for all sorts of other reasons too, from environmental reasons to sporting events!

Last year UK holiday firms reported a massive 40% increase on people staying on British shores to holiday during Wimbledon and The Ashes. This year firms are predicting that the increase will be more like 60% as people choose to stay at home and follow the World Cup in Rio!

A trip to Rio is a stretch too far for many, but going away with friends and dedicating a holiday to watching football is a pretty appealing prospect! It’s true that you can go to any of the Mediterranean countries and watch Sky TV from pretty much any bar, but with holiday prices on the rise, and a good summer predicted by meteorologists, it’s easy to see why many are choosing to stay at home!

Planning holidays around sporting events has become so popular than many big holiday parks now offer sports’ bars with full Sky fixtures, allowing holidaymakers to rest and relax, and catch up with the sporting action they might usually miss at home. It’s not just holiday parks either, all sorts of self-catering accommodation is increasing in popularity as people simply require a nice destination and a television set!

The London Olympics meant that sport, and the UK has never been so en vogue with interest at an all time high. A warm summer this year, and a good result for England in the Rio World Cup could turn out to be all many need for the perfect getaway!
