With staycations on the increase, holiday parks as doing their best to offer their holidaymakers more. Most parks now have WiFi, but that may be considered a bad thing, holidays are a time to get away from the screen! So it’s good that many parks are doing their best to provide more active facilities.

Many holiday parks are now becoming ‘active holidays’ which is a good thing considering the concerns across the country about childhood (and adult) obesity. So now many parks don’t just offer a swimming pool, but confidence lessons for the kids, as well as aqua-gliders and the like to make physical activity that bit more fun.

Some parks now have climbing walls which takes the getting active theme from a little bit of fun to a level of effort that will test your nerve, not to mention your muscles. Although holidays should be relaxing, pushing yourself will make the holiday that bit more memorable, and you never know, you may return with a renewed vigour for exercise.

Haven Holidays have been on the ball with getting holidaymakers out of their sun-loungers for a while now, and their latest addition is a 100 metre zip wire and aerial adventure ropes course at their Devon Cliffs Holiday Park in Exmouth. The activity is restricted to children over six, and they have a special deal for families: if we want our little ones to overcome their fears, the best way to do it is get up their first ourselves and show them what fun it is! (Doctor’s letters withstanding…)

It is however a shame that there is a charge for using what looks like a great facility, and this may put some people off, in fact, some parents may use it as an excuse for not joining their kids on it, which would be a shame. We’re hoping that eventually the rope course will be free, as that will make what already looks like a lovely park even more enticing.
