Today pregnant ladies can be offered all sorts of options for the location of their child’s birth, including water and home, but we doubt holiday park will be added to the list in the near future. Still, you can’t exactly choose where to give birth, but what is important is that there are medical professionals on hand to help out.
She may not have have had a team of midwives on hand, but when Leanne Barnes went into labour at the Welcome Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren she was lucky that first aider Kathryn Hammett, and her colleague Rachel Addison, as well as lifeguard supervisor Keith Mason who all played their part in the drama.
Leanne went into labour literally 20 minutes after checking in to Welcome Holiday Park. While waiting for the paramedics to arrive staff were given medical instructions over the phone. The staff did amazingly well, as the birth was breach.
At one point the baby did have difficulty breathing but luckily lifeguard supervisor Keith Mason was on hand to successfully perform CPR on the baby who has since been named Carly. Leanne didn’t even realise she was pregnant at the time, and little Carly who was born at a mere 4lbs and 4oz was taken to a specialist care unit, and both mother and baby have been doing well since.
One of the most important elements of the holiday park experience is the friendliness of the staff, even if the park has the best facilities imaginable, if the staff aren’t friendly it can be a real turn off. So, when it comes to good customer relations, it has to be said that the staff at the Welcome Holiday park have set a gold standard in customer care.
Apparently Leanne and her new family will be going back next year for a holiday that hopefully will not be cut short. Well done to the staff members who went beyond the call of duty in an amazing and heartwarming story. Original article.
