A recent survey by the website Trip Advisor has suggested that there really is no place like home with over 80% of us citing a UK seaside resort as our favourite holiday memory, and over a third saying they have returned there with their own families in the last five years.
For me it’s West Wales, but Cornwall, Devon, Skegness and many other seaside resorts will be on people’s lips when asked for their favourite. Sandy ice-creams and tumbledown sandcastles are the things that memories are made of and it seems that a great deal of the 5,000 UK holidaymakers surveyed agreed.
A massive 82% of Brits surveyed named a British seaside resort as their favourite childhood memory, with the South West coming out top in the survey, next to the South East and Wales. Of those who chose the UK, a third had revisited their childhood haunts as adults, to show a partner or a new family and 90% of them had been completely happy with what they found and enjoyed reliving old memories.
There have been several of these surveys around lately, run by several holiday firms and organisations, and all of them have shown overwhelmingly that Britain is back in love with the British holiday. Another survey from trip advisor named Rhossili beach in South Wales one of the best in the world, a beach from my own childhood and long overlooked by the rest of the UK. This does all show that British holidays really have never been so en vogue and if you’re going to stay in the UK then it seems the perfect opportunity to visit a beach from your own childhood and relive some memories along the way!
