It seems everywhere you look these days there’s someone with a smartphone in their hands, and more and more we are living through the technology we own. However, it’s not just taking pictures and chatting with friends, and many end up regretting taking the smartphone on holiday this year.
Although we can’t bear to be separated from our precious devices, work emails, texts and other interferences mean that most of us regret having taken it at all and this goes for both Brits who holiday abroad and those who like to stay on closer shores.
However, despite all this mobile phones are the fifth most important item on your average Brit’s holiday must-haves list according to this survey from Hotels.com.
The survey also found that 83% of us cite work as the reason for going abroad in the first place yet they check for an respond to work emails while there. Then upon reterning we realise that was our best chance to rest, relax and genuinely get away from it all and the regret kicks in.
It’s not just work either, holidaymakers said they found they were sucked into social media and events happening at home, another reason for regret when you’ve missed important time on your holiday.
We can see why people want to take the smartphone on holiday, after all with maps, internet, information, and of course a point of contact, they can be vital but it might be worth disconnecting from the world before you go and knocking the email and the social media offline!
The survey asked travellers from around the world the same question and we’re not actually as bad as some nations for the refusal to part with our phones, in fact in the survey we came just 15th beaten by Thailand, Japan and others and in joint 15th place with Germany.
