While for many the summer holiday is over, this is actually a very popular time for people with pets to get away. The holiday resorts have finally quietened down and the dog ban that affects many UK beaches over the summer is being lifted across the country. Those with dogs will know how difficult it is with limited beaches to visit across the summer months, and even beaches that allow dogs can get very busy, making it easy to see why many dog owners choose the late September, early November period to take a caravan holiday.
To check whether your chosen beach allows dogs, or when the ban is lifted, it’s usually best to check the local authority website, most coastal authorities have a dedicated page letting visitors know which beaches are dog friendly, and when the ban gets lifted on the ones that aren’t.
Some beaches lift the ban as early as 1st September, and you’ll find most beaches in Wales use this as the date to lift the dog ban. However, many authorities in England wait until ‘true autumn’, lifting the bans between 22nd September and 1st October.
You should find that by 1st October all dog bans across UK beaches will be lifted, and you’ll be able to incorporate the coast in your walk, and in your holiday. Of course that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be responsible and ensuring you pick up after your pet is what keeps the beaches open to dogs through the winter months!
If you are a pet owners and you’re looking to take an out of season break then many Caravan Parks listed on site allow you to take along pets for a small fee. Do check what the availability is and ensure you mention your pet when booking, and if you are concerned about whether your dog will be welcome on the beach or with local businesses, you can always check when you book as caravan park staff are often mines of information.
