Most Brits get about 5 weeks off a year, and that can mean a fair few short breaks and caravan deals if you time things perfectly, but a landmark ruling to holiday pay means British workers may just be getting even more time off, and that’s perfect news for those who enjoy long weekends and short breaks!
It’s a known fact that those who holiday in the UK are more likely to take several holidays a year rather than just one big foreign break, and when you holiday that way, every day makes all the difference. This landmark tribunal has ruled that employers must take regular overtime into account when calculating holiday pay and that could well mean more pennies, and more days off for Brits!
If you’re in the UK this will be music to your ears, whether you holiday here or not, but if you are a staycationer, you’ll appreciate that a couple more days can mean an extra break, an extra weekend away and an extra holiday throughout the year. What’s more, if you’ve taken holiday in the last three months, you can update your payments and claim a backdated holiday.
The ruling means that voluntary overtime, and stand in emergency workers should have any extra hours used when calculating holiday pay and that could mean extra cash, and a few more days off each year for thousands of UK workers.
Around a sixth of the UK workforce, around 5 million people currently do overtime regularly in the UK and this ruling could affect each and every one of them and with so many workers taking on extra hours every week, it’s no wonder the holiday industry is booming!
