Devon is the tourist hot spot of the UK, beautiful beaches and hills combined with good access make it the perfect holiday destination and anyone who has visited in the summer months will know just how popular it is. And with camping and caravanning interest at an all time high, it’s the perfect time for expansion within the industry so it comes as no surprise today to hear that plans for a brand new Holiday Park in the Devon Hills above Torbay have been approved.
There are lots of Holiday Parks in Devon, and many of them already accept tourers and tents, but with camping becoming such a popular hobby again there’s always room for more and that’s clearly what the owners here are thinking!
The new park will be a 5 star park, providing just 42 touring pitches, so the plans look to be pretty exclusive. The plans have been put forward by the Haulfryn Group who say they can increase tourism revenue in the area, an idea that Torbay Council agreed with when they unanimously approved the plans.
The site will be spread over around 2 hectares and will provide luxury facilities for caravanners and campers, with toilets, showers and full washing up facilities. Though it’s not known if there will be a pub or club house on site, the group has not as yet applied for a license, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Devon and it’s neighbour Cornwall remain the top holiday destinations in the UK, but actually as the industry grows and a bigger cross section of society get involved in the staycation trend, other places are becoming more popular too. While back in the 1960s heyday of caravanning everyone wanted to be by the seaside, on the pier with an ice-cream, these days there has been a huge growth in other kinds of holidays. Adventure holidays have seen a huge increase in the UK, and inland walking and activity holidays are also on the increase, and with more and more people looking for cheap city breaks, it’s not just Devon and Cornwall who are making the most of this trend!
