Stay at home holidays, camping or caravanning have becoming big business in the UK over the last few years, partly fuelled by the recession, and we’ve seen a return to the heyday for British Holidays. However, it seems our antipodean cousins are also embracing the same idea, as sales of holiday homes and caravans are at an all time high!
Although the other side of the world, we have close ties with Australia and our ways of life are not dissimilar so maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that they are following our trends so closely. Right now in the country caravan sales are booming, as Aussies take their holidays at home.
Now to be fair, if you ask anyone who doesn’t holiday in the UK why, they will probably tell you it’s because of the British weather, and while we’re British holiday advocates we couldn’t disagree. If we lived in Australia, you’d never get us out of our caravan or holiday home, and the milder climes would have a lot to do with that! So in that respect we’re only surprised that Australians are only just embracing the whole idea of the staycation, after all with all that on your doorstep, why would you go anywhere else?
Although that said, Australians also love and embrace our history and culture and come a long way to visit, and that’s the whole point of the staycation, to embrace and enjoy what is right on your doorstep. It may be tempting to dismiss somewhere as local, but it’s possible there’ll be people who flew 4,000 miles to be there, all the more reason why we should appreciate and enjoy this boom in the UK holiday industry too!
