Falling Euro Could Affect British Holidays

The UK holiday industry is booming, of that there’s no doubt. British holidays haven’t been so popular since the heyday of caravanning in the 1950s and 60s, and there’s much more on offer now than then. A few good summers for the industry have meant great investment, but this year a falling euro could affect British holidays as holiday makers take advantage of the bargains and head to Europe.

It’s been announced this week that the pound is at a seven year high against the euro, with €1 costing just over 70p, and as regular holidaymakers to the continent will know, this can make for some fantastic bargains!

A strong pound is always great news for holidaymakers, and this slump for the euro could take a lot of cash off your foreign holiday, especially regarding spending money while you get there. Just £880 will buy you €1,000 today, and that means you get much more for your money! The question is, will many holiday makers jet off at this news?

Well, given that many holiday makers actually cite airport stress and itineraries as the reason they stay away from foreign holidays, we do think it will dent the buoyant UK holiday industry too much. For families, airports are stressful and a good old British holiday can be done at your own pace. In addition to this, many people state that they take several holidays a year, and this may include a foreign holiday and several shorter breaks in the UK, and that’s a trend that the euro slump is unlikely to change. Finally, the long range weather forecast for this summer is looking pretty good, and as many Brits will know, it’s always the weather, or at least the forecast that affects British holidays more than anything else!

So while many may jet off to Spain or France to take advantage of the healthy state of the sterling currency, we think that just as many will stay at home, taking advantage of all the beautiful holiday parks around the UK.
