Easter is just around the corner now and it’s possible that you’re planning the first break way this year. With all the family to entertain eating out every night isn’t always possible, practical or affordable, but kitchens aren’t huge in many caravans, even static types and no one wants to be chained to the kitchen sink all holiday.
There are some things you can do to ensure you can make things as easy as possible for yourself, so you’re not tied to the cooker preparing everyone a slap up meal every evening. We hope our handy caravan cooking hints help!
Cold food is delicious
Especially in the warmer weather, and baguettes make a meal out of anything. Whether it’s cold meats, pickles and cheese, or olives and a Greek salad, finger food can make a lovely meal and it’s easy to delegate preparation tasks so everyone chips in.
Simple foods with few ingredients
Think hot dogs, burgers, steak baguettes, ham and eggs. Easy, simple food with not too much preparation and not too much washing up either, even better, the kids love it!
One pot cooking
If you really do want a hearty meal then choosing something you can cook in one pot is the way to go! Whether it’s an easy stew, casserole or an easy spag bol, if you’re lucky there may be leftovers for tomorrow too!
Picnics
We’re back to the cold food again, but if you’re going to be out all day at the beach or walking, a picnic is a great way to get in some lunch. Seaside food can be expensive and picnics are fun, plus you can make sure you include food for even the fussiest eaters.
Make everyone chip in
Not so much a meal idea as a practical idea, a holiday is a break from the norm and if the norm at home is mum cooking, then make sure everyone takes their share on holiday, whether it be washing up or clearing the table, make sure everyone does their share!
Snacks a plenty
Making sure you have plenty of fruit and snacks when away on a self-catering holiday is essential and stops the constant nags of ‘I’m hungry’.
Mostly, don’t forget it’s your holiday too, and you certainly don’t want to be stuck in cooking every night. Thankfully most of our featured parks have clubhouses, restaurants and snack bars, making life a lot easier.
