It goes without saying that Scotland is a beautiful country and despite its seasonally inclement climate still attracts millions of visitors every year. We all know Scotland is a land of castles, lochs, and wide open spaces, but what is there to do in the wonderful region?
It is impossible to list everything, but we’ve made a selection of what is on offer in Scotland, and apart from being a flight passenger, the activities all about getting out and about and getting the blood going!
Horse riding. What better way to see the countryside than on horseback? There are plenty of opportunities for equine fun for both the experienced and the new rider. The activity is suitable for children as many stables have small breeds of horses. For experienced riders riding trail holidays are available, but you need to have a good level of competence, and stamina.
Scottish country sports. Fancy putting on a deerstalker and seeing how the other half live? With over 200 country sports firms in the area there are plenty of opportunities for a variety of different sports. Shooting and fishing come at the top of the list. However, despite the nature of many of the sports they are not solely provided for blood letting thrill seekers who don’t care about the environment, as Scottish firms are generally closely tied with conservation of the environs.
Scotland by air. There are several options for viewing the regions magnificence by air, it all depends on how deep your pockets are, and how hands on you want the experience to be. Whatever you choose, these are for most people once in a lifetime experiences and you can choose from the following; balloon rides, helicopter tours, seaplane trips, and for the really adventurous there is micro-lighting and gliding.
Mountain biking is probably the cheapest option if you have your own bike and can transport it. There are miles and miles of suitable terrain to explore making the region a haven for serious and casual cyclists. If you want to spend the whole break on your bike but don’t want the hassle of planning food and accommodation stops there are agencies which can plan your holiday for you.
As noted, there are a lot more activities available, and if you think we’ve missed something important off the list please let us know by leaving a comment below.
