Things To Do In The Lake District This May Bank Holiday

Are you planning a nice relaxing weekend away this May Bank Holiday? Traditionally it’s a sunny weekend although the forecast isn’t promising much this year but it may be your first chance for a well-earned break since Christmas so we have to make the most of things. Cumbria and the Lake District is likely to be teeming with visitors this May Bank Holiday so we had a look to see what May Bank Holiday events are on in the area.

While it’s nice to kick back and relax on holiday it’s also nice to get involved in some local events and with a Bank Holiday weekend there’s plenty to do. If you haven’t booked your break yet you’ll want to hurry but there are plenty of holiday parks in the Cumbria area to choose from.

If you’re making it a nice long weekend then you may want to head along to the Antiques and Collectors Fair at Skiddaw Hotel, Keswick. It’s on from 10am to 5pm on Friday 1st May and Saturday 2nd May and there’ll be dealers from the local area to evaluate your antiques and collectables.

If you’re heading to the area for some walking, or you’re just getting into the idea of rambling holidays then on Saturday 2nd May there’s a Navigational Skills for Beginners class at Grasmere. You’ll need to book this in advance if travelling to the area, and the event starts at 10am. You could learn some valuable skills and introduce yourself to a brand new kind of British holiday along the way.

On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May there’s a Railway Roman History weekend taking place at Ravenglass Station, Ravenglass with activities, a Roman Soldier and plenty to do for all the family.

Of course the Lake District is steeped in history and no visit would be complete without a visit to one of the many castles. Lowther Castle and Gardens is opening its doors to the public for the first time in 70 years this May Bank Holiday weekend and makes the perfect relaxing day out.

And no trip to the Lake District would be complete without the Lakes, so make sure you take a look at the Windermere Lake Cruises where you can head out on a boat from 45minutes to 3 hours, depending on what suits you.

The most important thing of course is to have a fantastic and relaxing weekend and with a bit of luck we’ll have some sunshine too!
