The long standing joke is that a UK holiday requires a raincoat but if you’re planning a British holiday this year you may be in for a treat. Despite the legendary stories of washout UK breaks, this week the mercury is rising and we could see temperatures of up to 35C in the UK, the hottest of the year so far, and considerably warmer than the previous few summers.
Getting weather more akin to the Continent on the week you’ve booked a break for is like winning the staycation lottery and can make a week in the UK as enjoyable as a week in the Caribbean, so if you’re planning a break in the next couple of weeks make sure you pack the sun cream!
It’s said that this week alone the temperatures in the UK could be hotter than Rio de Janeiro, and people are being asked to be careful in the sun, especially at midday and at the hottest times of the day. This sudden spike in temperatures may bring thunderstorms for the weekend, and that’s always an interesting experience if you’re in a caravan, but after that the long term forecast is also looking good!
In previous years we’ve seen warm June and early July weather for it then to change for the worse come the first week of the summer holidays. This year the Met Office says the temperatures may continue to stay high into mid-July and possibly to the end of the month, but whether those waiting for the summer holidays to start will get a sunshine break remains to be seen.
