5 Reasons to Holiday in Scotland

Great Britain is a beautiful place and as more people choose staycations over foreign holidays this is exactly what they are discovering. If you’re wondering where to head for your summer holiday this year then Scotland is a great bet, with unspoiled landscapes and rugged mountains and lochs it can feel like a faraway land and all without having to travel too far.

The most northern part of the UK is a delight of rural backdrop, unique local history and plenty of culture. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful hideaway or an exciting city break, Scotland is a great holiday destination. Here are 5 reasons to holiday in Scotland this summer.

The Edinburgh Festival

Probably the most famous festival in the whole of the UK, the Edinburgh Festival takes place throughout August, celebrating and promoting all sectors of the arts. The streets are full of fun and if you select August for your Scottish holiday it’s definitely not to be missed.

Loch Ness and the Monster

What better way to enjoy a week away with the kids than to enjoy the mythical stories of Nessie. Holidaying near Loch Ness means you can have some fun with the family looking out for the creature. Even if you don’t spot Nessie, the scenery and location is one of the most beautiful around.

History

From prehistoric landmarks to castles and ruins, Scotland is steeped in history and some of it even predates the pyramids so you’re really getting value for money from your staycation.

The Food (and drink!)

Scottish fare is wonderful and you really shouldn’t go all the way to Scotland without testing some of their fine fare. Haggis is worth a try though it doesn’t appeal to all, but Scottish beef and game are just as famed. Of course, no trip to Scotland would be complete without a visit to the distillery and there are plenty that open their doors to the public allowing you to see the process.

Golf

Scotland is the home of golf and St Andrews is so much more than a golf course, allowing you to go along and find out about the history of the game and take in a round of golf during your visit too!

So if you’re still looking for your ideal holiday destination this summer then bonny Scotland is a great place to get away and there’s plenty to see and do too!
