We keep hearing about the rise of the staycation and how many people are choosing the UK over foreign holidays, but maybe you’re not convinced, maybe you like your foreign holidays and you’re not yet ready to give them up to stay in the UK. Sometimes it can be easy to forget just how beautiful the UK shores are, and how much Britain has to offer so here’s a little reminder of just how beautiful our country is!
Whether you want a beach holiday or a city break the UK can rival foreign destinations and offer you just as much sand, sea and culture as any European break. With this in mind we looked up some UK destinations to see how they compare to being abroad.
Torquay Vs the French Riviera
This part of the South Devon coast is known as the English Riviera and with good reason. Torquay and the surrounding area gets more days of sunshine a year than anywhere else in Britain, the coastline is simply beautiful and there’s plenty to see and do.
Isle of Wight Vs Ibiza
The Isle of Wight may not have any super clubs but it does host two of the UK’s biggest music festivals each year and if you time your holiday to coincide with Bestival or the Isle of Wight Festival then you get to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches and some exciting music festival fun too!
York Vs Prague
If you fancy a bit of historic culture then you may be tempted to jet off to Prague or many other European cities, but for a city break you can’t really get better than York. The city has culture to rival ancient Rome, founded in 71AD by the Romans themselves. The cobbled streets and ancient features make it the perfect city break for those after a bit of culture.
Isle of Man Vs Norway
If you thought you had to head all the way to Norway to see the Northern Lights then we have news for you. Of all of the UK, the Isle of Wight is known as the best place to get a view of this natural phenomenon, and what a beautiful place to visit too!
Edinburgh Vs Cannes
Who needs the Cannes festival? A short break in Edinburgh during festival time is fun, exciting and a non-stop loop of events, plus plenty of historic culture and a whopping great castle, what more could you want?
Liverpool Vs Limoges
You can jet off to Central France to enjoy the historic city of Limoges, but if you’d rather not have the language barrier then we suggest UK City of Culture, Liverpool. Although while it’s full of history and culture, we can’t guarantee you won’t encounter the same language problems with the Scouse accent!
