It’s pretty typical isn’t it? The children go back to school after a soggy August and now the sun has come out for September! Across the UK temperatures have been reaching around 23 degrees this week and while that may not be great news for those sending the little darlings back to school, it is great news for those taking bargain September breaks.
With the children back in school the price of holidays drop this week and you can get a short break for as little as £69, and with warm September temperatures forecast for much of the country, at least for the first half of the month.
It seems that we’re starting a trend, while we’re constantly lamenting the late summer sun after the school holidays, it’s happening so regularly it’s becoming normality. Last year this week reached highs of 24 degrees too, and while forecasters are being cautious about using the phrase ‘Indian Summer’, people are looking out at the sunshine and hoping for the best!
For those who aren’t tied with children and school dates, September makes the perfect time for a relaxing holiday. With the kids back at school everywhere is a little bit quieter, and holiday prices have taken a tumble too!
How long this lovely weather will last no one knows, weather forecasters are predicting above average temperatures for the next few days at least and we’ll have to see if that continues into September.
If you have booked a break then you’re likely to be feeling rather smug enjoying the late summer sun, if not then it’s not too late to do with some fantastic special offers around.
The phrase Indian Summer comes from the Native American era rather than the Indian subcontinent and indicates a prolonged period of sunshine at the end of the summer. While we use this American phrase, across Europe long sunny spells at the end of the summer are known as an ‘Altweibersommer’, which translates literally as ‘Old Woman’s Summer’.
