All families are different, but we’ve put together a list of things to look out for to keep the kids busy, entertained and happy on holiday. The list could go on for ever, but at the very least, even if this isn’t ‘your list’ it may prompt you to create your own, which should help you in your search for the perfect getaway for you and the kids.
Yes, it’s a bit of a no-brainer, but it has to be number one. You may well think that the kids will benefit from the educational value of moth spotting, or foraging in a woodland located park. However, are you really thinking about the kids, or are you thinking about your own need to get away from the beach crowds? In short, the beach is always a winner!
Make It Furry
Kids love animals. Full Stop. This applies to everything from zoos to petting farms, even a trip to local pet shop! In fact, it doesn’t even have to be furry. Kids just love animals. Even if they don’t get to feed a cute goat or stroke a rabbit, there’s something about all animals that kids find irresistible.
Museums? Really? Well perhaps not all museums, but at the top of the list are science museums, as they always have some hands on stuff for the kids to mess about with. Plus, you get to sneak in a bit of education through the back door.
A Bit Of Theatre
We’re not talking opera here, but we are talking everything from Punch and Judy to panto dames. Before you go away check out what’s going on at your destination by searching for local theatres, and maybe looking at the online local press. It’s a great bit of entertainment that gets them away from the screens. Oh yes you will!!
Wheels and Wings
Kids love transport whether they are sitting on it or just looking at it. Train rides are great, particularly the old fashioned narrow gauge rail. You may not think half and hour is worth a few quid, but that half an is an eternity of interest for the little ones. Even transport museums are a great place for kids. And, not forgetting boat trips, nothing beats them!
We’ve put this one last on the list for two reasons. Firstly is the expense issue. Secondly, not many adults are fans as they are noisy, not too mention nauseating for some. But, the kids love them. Perhaps save a day of rides until the last day, that way they won’t keep asking to go back before the end of the holiday!
As noted, this list may just be a prompter to get you thinking about how to keep the kids entertained. If you think we’ve missed out on something obvious please let us know by leaving a comment below. Thanks, and enjoy your break this year.
